Updating a website for a pilates studio to enhance user flow and functionality

The objective of this project was to redesign a website for a Pilates studio. The Good Studio’s website was functional, but not very user friendly. It was outdated, and their class reserve function was full of bugs. I focused on upgrading their user flow, expanding their limited sitemap, and a total re-vamp of their reservation system. I also conducted surveys with clients and interviewed Good Studio employees to gauge what features were desirable for the business's website.

Theclient also wanted to implement a management software into their website, hence the secondary research and a second competitive analysis, on which management software would best suit my clients needs.

In addition, I also incorporated a brand strategy that will provide overall growth of conversion rates and higher profit margins.

TheWhys

The site had over 30 options, but only led to 3 alternative pages when the social media links weren’t accounted for. These were the class reserve page, buy class page, and login page. There was much work needed to be done.

RESEARCH

I conducted multiple competitive analysis based on the customer’s needs.

The first competitive analysis were of the leading pilates studio in located in New York and Los Angeles. From the leading competitors, I gathered their common best practices that TheGoodStudio was disregarding. The second competitive analysis were software management companies that best catered to my customer’s needs. Then from the mass data collected, I concluded these factors…

CompetitiveAnalysis

After analyzing, I had uncover multiple factors of revenue loss. These were the top 3.

not offering private classes

(a loss on both the clients and instructors)

not offering online classes

(The most significant factor of revenue loss)

merchandise unavailability on the platform

The absence of online classes was the most crucial factor because users preferred the convenience of attending classes from home or while traveling, accessing them more easily, attending in groups, and the significant impact of living in a post-COVID world.

Software Management

CompetitiveAnalysis

After presenting my findings to the client, we decided on MINDBODY as the suitable option.

IDEATE

Personas were created after personally attending several pilates classes. Then building upon the research findings, I interviewed a several staff members to enhance the site map

Personas

SiteMaps

The existing sitemap has 30+ available tabs but they all only led to the class reserve page, the buy classes page, or social media. It offered many options, but really only offered two choices. I used research data from interviews and competitive analysis to implement common best practices on the new sitemap, thereby growing from 2 links on their home page to 7 links
